Changing your runs to accomodate aging

To keep a strong, effective and efficient heart as you age above 50 is it better to run 1/2 marathons at 2hr pace, or shorter 10 to 15kms runs at a faster speed??

Hi Walter,

Keeping a strong and efficient heart comes down to doing what you enjoy and not what event you do.

Some runners that are older prefer to do half marathons and marathons as they find it rewarding and the quality training does not impact on their body as much as racing shorter distances BUT there are some older runners who don't like doing half marathons and marathons and prefer to do less mileage but do faster quality sessions.

It is more about finding out what you want to do and what your body can handle.
